Boston Gymkhana Sports Club

Formerly Norwood Cricket club

Boston gymkhana sports Club (BGSC) is a member of the Massachusetts State Cricket League (MSCL).  MSCL consists of 17 teams from all over the state.  BGSC was formerly known as Norwood Cricket Club (NCC).  To reflect the growing diversity of players from/in/around Greater Boston, the name NCC was given up and the club was renamed Boston Gymkhana Sports Club(BGSC).

NCC was formed in 1997 by a group of cricket enthusiasts in Norwood.  NCC joined MSCL the same year.

NCC was a finalist in both the tournaments it entered in the year 2000, MSCL and Newport, RI. In the year 2001 after a lackluster regular season, NCC gathered steam and won its first Championship, by winning Newport Invitational, Newport, RI.  This was followed by winning "MIT fall cricket tournament that was played indoors and concluded in Feb. 2002.

For the year 2002 BGSC fielded two teams in MSCL.  BGSC 'A' went on to win Div. "B" MSCL Championship.

BGSC is planning to field three teams for the 2003 season.   2003 season will start sometime in March 2003, stay tuned.  Join our mailing list for additional information. Join Mailing list

Mission

  • Provide an opportunity for club members to play cricket on a competitive as well as recreational basis.
  • Field competitive team(s) to participate in Massachusetts State Cricket league.
  • Develop a schedule allowing all members to play cricket recreationally.
  • Strive to provide opportunity to all BGSC members (irrespective of talent) to participate in at least one MSCL match.
  • Organize at least two "family day" cricket events.

Boston Gymkhana Sports Club has players of all skill levels.  Members can join at any time during the season.  For recreational players there is ample opportunity to join in on practice sessions.  Check schedule for time and location. There are friendly games scheduled from time to time as well to play against other teams in and around Boston. Those of you who strive for competitive cricket, you will have the opportunity to compete at a fairly high level with other teams in the league. Exceptional players may even get an opportunity to compete internationally.

The Club provides all the equipment (Bat, Pads, Gloves, Helmets, balls etc.) as part of your membership fees. To play in the league matches, you are required to wear white shirt, long white trousers and white sports shoes. It is advisable to wear athletic shoes that have some sort of traction soles since you will be running on the grass in the outfield. Metal spikes are not permitted because of League standards and also all the grounds use matting wickets, a surface easily damaged by spikes.
